St. Patrick's Day Freebie!

We will be on Spring Break the week prior to St. Patrick's Day, so we will be "celebrating" in my class next week!  Now that everything is ready to go for Seuss-O-Rama on Friday, I have started working on my plans for our leprechaun fun!  My kiddos will complete this writing activity next week, but I had 2 sweeties create a sneak peek for y'all this afternoon.

They couldn't stop giggling with those glasses on!  I just love huge shades.  ;)  I will be compiling all of their pages into one big class book.

Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day with your super kids?

Seuss-O-Rama Sunday

I have spent the majority of my day behind my laptop creating activities for Dr. Seuss' Birthday aka Read Across America Day.  I am thrilled that March 2nd falls on a Friday this year!  I always love when special events can be a treat we anticipate all week.

There are so many incredibly fabulous Seuss books, but it's just impossible to use them all.  I narrowed it down to these 5 for my activities on Friday...
(We read Bartholomew and the Oobleck earlier this year for a science lesson, so we are just using that one for our graphing activity.)

For Morning Work, the students will be creating paper Dr. Seuss hats to wear for the day.  I have asked their parents to help send them to school in black clothing.  I will be tying red bow ties made of grosgrain ribbon around their necks to complete the look.  :)

I will be reading Cat in the Hat during Morning Meeting, and we will start the day with creative writing during Writer's Workshop.
I will be printing out black and white photos of the children's faces, they will add a Seuss hat (complete with red and silver glitter), and we will mount the writing next to their artwork.  Click on the writing page or here for this free download at my TPT store!

I will be dressing up for the day, wearing black clothing and my Cat in the Hat accessories purchased here from Amazon.  I will be taking pictures of each of my kids in their handmade costumes to use for the next writing activity.  They will complete the prompt and glue their own photo above the writing.  We will compile these for a SuperKid class book!
This is another freebie! :)

While the Cat might be the star, we can't forget about those all-important Things!  Thank you Pinterest and The Lazy Stay-at-Home Mommy for this adorable (and easy) Thing 1 and Thing 2 craft.
After my SuperKids create these on a large piece of construction paper, they will create their own sentences using my Sentence Builder activity and glue below the Things.

I think the kids will be especially excited to read The Lorax with the upcoming movie release!  We will discuss ways that we can help our earth, and the students will choose 1 idea to write about.
My students will use crayons and markers to draw truffula tree trunks above their writing.  We will glue marabou feathers on top, so cute!  Grab this writing page for free right here.

For math time, we will be reading One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and will be using red and blue fish cut-outs to find the many ways to make 10!  This fabulous printable freebie is from Vickie Plant and can be downloaded here.

After reading Green Eggs and Ham, we'll be ready for a cooking activity! We are not going to make green scrambled eggs because I know my <strike>picky</strike> discerning SuperKids will not actually eat that.  Instead, green egg cookies!  Who could possibly turn down a sugar cookie with white and green icing on top!?  Not any of my kiddos, that's for sure.  They will get to ice the cookies themselves.

The fun will continue with another math activity as we graph which books were our favorites!
We have been practicing using greater than and less than symbols, as well as multi-step addition problems, so this activity will reinforce several of our standards.

I can't wait until Friday!  What do you have planned for Read Across America Day this year!?

SuperKid Song Saturday

Music is an integral part of my classroom. We use songs for learning, songs for spark time, and songs for just having FUN! I thought I'd use Saturdays to share some of the favorites we enjoy in the SuperKid classroom. Maybe you will find a new song to share with your sweeties.

We watch this music video at the very beginning of the year after reading the book, and the students beg to sing and dance to it all year long!

I am off to get some chores done before I stop by a SuperKid birthday party at a local "Pump It Up". Going to get some good jumpin' time with my class! Tonight we are celebrating my husband's birthday with friends. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Feelin' the Love & a Freebie

What a great day to debut the new blog... Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!  If Valentine's Day in your classroom is anything like mine, you are officially EX-HAUS-TED but full of the lovin' only Kinders can provide.  You probably also have chocolate smears on your pants, pixie stick dust under your fingernails, and red paint in your hair.  Oh, how I love Kindergarten!

We were in full-on party mode today, but I did *sneak* in some "real work," like the writing activity on back of a craft.

Yesterday, we used Writer's Workshop time to work on a special friendship book.  The students wrote about things that friends always do and things that friends never do.  (Some of them were a little confused... "Why should I write about bad things, Mrs. Davis!??)  Their responses were so precious, and some were truly touching.
A friend always... helps me dance and sing.

A friend never... kicks me or hurts me.

A friend always... fills your bucket like saying nice, good things.
(We do "Bucket Fillers" at my school.)

A friend never... hits, and never "bes" mean.

A friend always... cheers for me.

A friend never... hits me.

A friend always... helps me.

A friend never... makes me sad.

A friend always... helps me if I don't know how to write.

The writing prompt pages are free on my TPT store, as well as the book cover!
Hope you have a wonderful Valentine's evening with those you love!
