Fraction Action

So I really do try to avoid turning everything into a cheesy rhyme, but sometimes it's just too tempting to resist!  ;-)  My new Fraction Action Mega Memory Match Game Pack is the perfect fraction resource for the primary grades.
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Fraction-Action-Mega-Match-Game-Printables-1196901

The pack contains playing cards that represent fractions as parts of a set and as parts of a whole.  The pack also contains differentiated student activity pages for guided or independent practice - or to be used for assessment!
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Fraction-Action-Mega-Match-Game-Printables-1196901

There are 372 cards playing cards in the pack ranging from one-half to eight-sixteenths.  Print and use all of the cards or just ones that are appropriate for your students.  The cards are organized with coordinating backgrounds by numerator and by denominator so you can decide which makes more sense for you.  The backgrounds can also help children self-check when working independently.

I use the cards for a memory match game, but they could also be used for a math word wall, comparing fractions, or finding equivalent fractions!
This game gets a thumbs-up from my SuperKids!  :)

In addition to the playing cards, the pack contains 3 differentiated student activity pages.

Find Fraction Action in my TPT Store.  Thanks for bearing with my corny rhyme.  I promise to refrain from any others for awhile.  ;-)

Fan FREEBIE: Little Fish, Little Fish Emergent Reader

We are studying ocean animals this week, and I created another little emergent reader in my fave Brown Bear, Brown Bear style for stations.

Instead of putting this in my TPT Store, I decided to make it free for all of my Facebook friends!  If you haven't "liked" my page yet, click here or on the picture below to go visit Kindergarten SuperKids on Facebook!  When you become a fan, you gain access to fun freebies, including this ocean animals emergent reader.

I already have several ideas for new fan freebies that will be coming soon, so make sure to go hit "Like"!  I've been a Facebook user since college, but I love love love how it's now being used for more teacher connecting and sharing!

I hope to see you soon over on Facebook!  :)

Little Bunny Emergent Reader & Easter Egg Measurement FREEBIE!

I can't believe this short week is already halfway over!  As much as I love summer, I'm ready for time to slow down.  I need more time with my sweet SuperKids.  We still have more to learn, and I'm definitely not looking forward to our farewell hugs on the last day.  :(

I have this Little Bunny, Little Bunny, What Do You See? Emergent Reader in my "Making Books" literacy station this week and the kids LOVE it!

They get the black-and-white version.  They use highlighters to find the high frequency words, color the pictures, and READ!  And read and read and read and read...  ;)  I love how some patterns in text never get old.  At least for the kids.

If you're looking for a fun way to incorporate an Easter or spring theme into math this week, I added this great Egg Measurement FREEBIE to my TPT Store!
Both of these are sure to be a huge hit with your own SuperKids this week! Make it a great one!

Lima Bean Love!

Every year we "plant" lima bean seeds in baggies taped to a window.  I've written about our plant activities previously (here and here), but this year our lima bean plants grew better than ever!  (Which is quite the miracle since I have what's possibly the world's blackest thumb!)

Every morning my SuperKids would rush to the window to check on the status of their lima beans.  The squeals and gasps coming from my lil' scientists made me so happy.  There's nothing better than watching your students delight in learning!  We recorded the growth in our lima bean observation logs:
"regular"

"seed coat came off"

"it is wrinkly"

"the skin is almost off"

"roots"

Most of the lima bean plants grew successfully, but there were a few that rotted.
"it is rotten"

"the lima bean is bad"

Lima beans are a super cheap and easy way to give your students hands-on learning about plant growth and seeds!

The observation log is in my TPT Store, along with a grass version and two plant FREEBIES - a plant parts labeling activity and a seed dissection recording page.

I hope your own SuperKids are having as much fun learning about plans as mine are!

An Advanced Word Family Activity: Word Family Sentences!

The SuperKids love meeting a new word family each week!  _at, _en, _ip, _og... we're all real tight.  Word family work is a constant literacy station in my room.  Last year I devised a more advanced activity for my students who needed something more challenging than our typical word family house.

These word family sentences are a perfect addition to a word work center for advanced Kindergarten students or 1st and 2nd Graders.  The kiddos must be able to independently read and comprehend the sentences.  They then choose the appropriate word from that family to fill-in the blank.

My students love trying to come-up with different words that will work in 1 sentence.  They sometimes fill-in-the-blank in a totally different way than what I intended!  ;-)

This pack is available in my TPT Store!

Chirp! Chirp! Great Work! Student Reward Freebie

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Chirp-Chirp-Great-Work-Student-Reward-Freebie-1195583
Why reserve fun, magical characters just for Christmastime?  Straight from the wonderful land of fairy dust and talking toys, these friends of the Elf-on-the-Shelf are part of my most favorite behavior management reward system I use in my classroom.  Depending on the season, these creatures appear in our classroom to watch my students and award them based on good behavior!
I got this adorable chick from my local Hobby Lobby.  When he shows up on a student's desk with an award, he also brings this certificate.
Only I can touch the chick, so when the students excitedly point-out his new location, I pick him up and he whispers to tell me why the specific student was chosen.  ;-)  Another perfect way to highlight specific behaviors that you want to see more of in all of your kiddos.

Click on the image above or on this link to get the certificate for free!  You could also use it throughout the Spring even if you don't have a lil' chick character.
